9/1: Technology Workshops
Technology Workshop registration is now open and the first workshop is this weekend! This is a great way to learn some of the software that is important to planning, not only to help you get through your schoolwork more effectively, but also great for building your resume and landing the job you want after graduation. Students who went to last year’s SketchUp Workshop found it very valuable, and it costs a fraction of what you pay to get this kind of instruction elsewhere.

Workshops are open to CU Denver MURP Students. Please use the Eventbrite links below to purchase your tickets for the workshop.

All of the workshops instructors are MURP alumni, giving you a chance to engage with a local planner while learning more about computer applications used in planning. The workshops are intended to be a supplement to the introductory instruction for each application provided in The Planning Profession or Planning Methods. Each workshop will begin with a brief recap of what was covered in class on that application, with the rest of the workshop focusing on new application features, tools and techniques.

Each workshop is limited to a maximum of 30 attendees. You will need to bring your own laptop to use at the workshop. All workshops will be in CAP Room 480. Note: the Microsoft Excel workshop on September 3 and the Microsoft Access workshop on October 29 are half-day workshops. The other three are full-day workshops.

If you have questions, please contact Ken at ken.schroeppel@ucdenver.edu.

8/16/2016: EcoDistrict Research Forum
Here is a cool opportunities from Department Chair Austin Troy:
There is an opportunity to participate in the Ecodistrict Research Forum which is in Denver this year, located at DU on Thursday Sept 15.  Information about it is at http://www.summit.ecodistricts.org/program/research-symposium-program/. They are looking for a couple of students to work with a team of DU and CSU student in a volunteer support role, including helping to record sessions—it’s a good chance to network and meet folks. Our understanding is that volunteers won’t have to register for the conference. If you are interested please email austin.troy@ucdenver.edu with the subject line “Ecodistrict Research Forum volunteer” and he will put you on the list.
